Political Empowerment of Women: A Study of Political participation of Women in the working of Panchayati Raj in Barpeta District, Assam
Abstract
This study has been undertaken to understand the impact of socio-economic factors which affected the political participation of women in the char (riverine) areas of Barpeta District of Assam. This study is based on a unique context of sandy river island where women have been the most vulnerable in different angles. So far as the political participation of womenis concerned in the working of panchayati Raj system, has been gained momentum after the 73rd Amendment Act of the constitution of India. Therefore, in consonance of that amendment particularly after the reservation for women is devised this study becomes very significant.
