Abstract

Background: Resorption of the residual ridges is a continuous process resulting in mandible atrophies greater rate in comparison to maxilla. Many situations does not allow dental practitioner to provide implants in such cases. In such complexities  neutral zone technique for denture fabrication poses advantage as an alternative technique. Present study is designed to identify significance of neutral zone patterns and its importance in patient denture satisfaction.

Methodology: Total of 40 patients with minimum of edentulous period with range of 6 months to 9 years was divided in two groups on basis of denture fabrication technique i.e. neutral zone based due & conventional complete dentures respectively.

Results: Significant neutral zone shifting was observed lingually in anterior and posteriorr region of lower jaw with respect to patients with long period of edentulism (3- 9 years).

Conclusion: Higher patient’s satisfaction level was observed with complete dentures fabricated by neutral zone technique as compared to conventional technique.
