Constructivist Teaching-Learning in Context of Higher Education

Abstract

Higher education is the growing concern for changing society. This is the strategic necessity of a society to make its young students capable of meet the challenges comes to them. The rapid expansion of knowledge has brought issues to the teaching-learning process of higher education. The traditional lecture, discussion method has to be transformed to an active participation approach. Teacher as the facilitator has to arrange a supportive and positive learning environment for the students. For encouraging student’s autonomy and establishing collaborative learning, constructivism is a theory of learning to insist. A learner participatory approach promotes an attitude of ‘knowledge construction’ which is based on their content area.  This paper presents a description of higher education and the constructivist notion of teaching-learning in its perspective.
