Abstract

IoT involves extending Internet connectivity beyond standard devices, Embedded with technology, these devices can communicate and interact over the Internet, and they can be remotely monitored and controlled. The focus of this paper is Smart Street lighting system and controlling traffic signals based on the former. In this system the intensity of the street lights are controlled based on the amount of natural light present and the traffic density. This smart lighting system automatically detects the movements of the objects on the street and in turn switches ON the light if there is no natural light. In the traditional system IR sensor is used to detect the object. The microcontroller is used to control the process, involving the internet. Two different sensors namely light dependent resistor (LDR) and Infra Red sensor are used. This project also concentrates on dynamic traffic light control based on the traffic intensity detected by the street lights. The street lights transmit the collected data as the input to traffic lights, who then alter the signal time. This smart system is used to avoid unnecessary usage of electricity and prevent traffic congestion.
