Impacts of Western Education in the Social Development of Manipur

Abstract

The Christian missionaries, in order to used education as a supplementary means to the primary task of communicating the spiritual message to the people, introduced western education and make a tremendous contribution for the development of Western education in Manipur during the colonial period   (1891-1947). Thus, the advent of Western education had brought vast far-reaching impacts on the society of Manipur. Its impact is felt by every society of Manipur both in the hill and the valley and can be considered as a boon for the people of Manipur. It acted as the force of social change among the people of Manipur.
