Simulation of Multiple Input Multiple Output based 802.11n Wi-Fi Technology using Matlab

Abstract

This Paper gives the simulation of multiple inputs multiple output (MIMO) multipath fading channels depends on the standards IEEE 802.11n WiFi which is used for the indoor application of wireless local area networks WLAN. It uses a multiple input multiple output multipath fading channel with a bell Doppler spectrum object and 2 transceiver antennas. The IEEE 802.11n standard channel models are designed and applied for indoor application of wireless local area networks for the bandwidths as large as 100 MHz, at the license-free spectrum of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. The channel models contain a set of six   profiles with names A to F.  These channel models with six profiles used in the applications of residential, flat fading, small/ medium/large offices, and large spaces such as indoors and outdoors. Each channel model of A to F gives a model with path loss which includes shadowing; a multiple input multiple output multipath fading models. It also describes the specifications of Bell Doppler spectrum with multipath delay profile, K-factor distribution, and spatial properties. Multiple antenna (MIMO) technologies are being considered as a best solution for the next generation of mobile and wireless local area networks (WLAN). As compared conventional single antenna communication systems, the use of multiple antennas (smart antenna based systems and spatial multiplexing based multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems) provides extended range, improved reliability and higher throughputs.
