Valve Lift Profile Optimization at Different Engine Speed and Load via Model Based Calibration (MBC)
Abstract
An internal combustion engine breathes through poppet valves, inlet and outlet. The valve opening controls the air-fuel mixture into the combustion chamber and out to the exhaust and then to the atmosphere. The opening of the valve depends on the camshaft profile. Different engine speed and load needs a different valve opening timing (phase), lift, and duration. Therefore, this project focuses on the optimization of the valve opening event in different engine speeds and loads via model-based calibration (MBC). Both intake and exhaust valve were optimized. 1D simulation software, GT-Suite was used in this demonstration. The data collected suggests that the optimum timing, lift and duration on the valve opening event were different for all speed and load.
