Abstract

In day to day life, it is necessary to study the behavior of each multistory building structure undergoing ground movement, which is the common construction problem. The earthquake at the base of the structure creates the vibrating forces. Such vibration produces the building oscillation that can cause tremendous damage to the structure.

To avoid such critical damage, Structural Engineers are working on various types of structural system that can help in withstand resistance, provide strength and withstand strong motions. Dampers & Isolators are one of the earthquake effective system.

Dampers are the energy-dissipating device used to resist the structures lateral forces. Dampers are used to minimize column buckling, beam deflection and improve the structure’s rigidity. During the earthquake, dampers is used to reduce the vibration and deformation of the framed RC structure

Base isolation is a technique developed to prevent or minimize damage to buildings during an earthquake. When a building is built away (isolated) from the ground, resting on flexible bearings or pads known as base isolators, it will only move a little or not at all during an earthquake.

The study deals with the performance evaluation for the selected RC framed structure of different types of passive control devices. Analysis of 10 storey normal RCC building and RCC building with dampers and RCC building with isolators is done. Dynamic analysis is done to analyse different parameters such as shear force, bending moment, stresses, accelerations and eigen values of all the models and check the structural performance of the high-rise structure or building with or without the dampers and isolators with same plan area and same loading conditions using SAP 2000 software.
