Abstract

To evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the aqueous extract of pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) peel and juice, against the microorganisms considered the main etiologic agents of some of the pathogenic bacteria (E.Coli, Bacilluas ssp, and  S.aureus). About 50% of the total fruit weight corresponds to the peel, which is an important source of bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, phenolics, tannins, terpenoids, saponins, cardinolids, carbohydrates, and Punicalagin. Aqueous, juice and ethanol extraction have all phytochemical compounds except saponines. In the present study, anti-bacterial activity was studied against E.Coli, Bacilluas ssp, and  S.aureus. The reduction in microbial percentage in the aqueous, extracts and fresh juice are represented. Among the three samples, aqueous extract shows potent antimicrobial activity.
