Antifungal Efficacy of Essential Oils of Plant Cinnamomum Zeylanicum, Oregano Vulgare and Allium Sativum Against Candida Albicans : A Review

Abstract

Since ancient time treatments of fungal infection through natural herbs and oils have come into existence as an alternative of conventional drugs use by seeing resistance of various standard drugs. The specific intend of this review article is to provide important information about antifungal action of essential oil of cinnamon bark, oregano and garlic. After studying various research articles it was founded that essential oil of Cinnamon zeylancium has potent antifungal activity due to presence of its major constituent cinnamldehyde (74%) MIC at 112 mcg/ml. Also demonstrated that origanum oil and garlic oil has excellent anticandida activity due to carvacol MIC at 250 mcg/ml and allicin MIC at 0.35 mcg/ml respectively. These oils can be used in future as antifungal agents alternative to some standard drugs. These essential can be formulated as lotion or creams for future uses.
