Abstract

Educational loan is a financial aid for the students having the aspiration to pursue academics with the
outcome of the employability so that they may have avenues to repay the debt. As per the guidelines of
Reserve bank of India, Education loan comes under the category of priority sector lending by the banks to
support low and moderate income students. Taking into account the increasing education financing,
delinquency rate is also increasing. In the current study, efforts have been made to analyse all possible
determinants which influence the intention of a student to payback the education loan derived from
various theories. A structural framework has been introduced by reviewing the various literatures on
student loan. The comprehensive theoretical framework is based on four theories-Theory of reasoned
action, Theory of Planned behaviour, Theory of human capital and Theory of ability to pay. This research
paper investigates the various factors which may have possible link and have influence on student’s
intention to repayment of education loan or default.
