Abstract

Background: Rabies is one of the most established perceived ailments influencing people and most
significant zoonotic infections in India. Rabies is an enzootic and epizootic disease of worldwide.
Although 2 million bites occur each year in India more than 95 % of these cases are bitten by dogs. So
the present study is done to survey the degree of information on first aid and treatment modality
regarding management of client with dog bite among rural population. Material & Methods - Pre
experimental design was used on 100 study subjects were selected through Simple Random Sampling
Technique. Study was conducted at Koyana Vasahat , rural area. The data was collected using structured
questionnaire. Results: Among 100 subjects (37% ) were between age group of 45 and above, while (
60%) were males , whereas (28%) subjects had Higher Secondary education and 32 % were self
employed and housewife also 92 % subjects were Hindu and from nuclear family (76%). Majority
subjects had income is 6001 to 9000 (52 %). Mean and standard deviation of knowledge score obtained
before and after the administration of the information booklet on knowledge regarding management of
client with dog bite among rural population. Conclusion: The study concludes that there is inadequate
knowledge on first aid management of client with dog bite and treatment modality of dog bite among
adults. There is more need for health education regarding a dog bite first aid management, proper
vaccination and care of wounds among adults.
