Abstract

This paper explains the findings of laboratory studies performed with the Tilting Flume to calculate
the effects of sediment transport on discharge coefficients for 90º triangular, rectangular and
Cipolletti sharp-crusted weirs(1H:4V) across a variety of fluxes and channel slope effects on the
percentage reduction of discharge coefficients for specific flow calculation weirs and variance of
suspension weirs. It was found that owing to sediment transport, the reduction of the discharge
coefficient was 16 percent for 90º triangular weir, 10 percent for rectangular weir, and 6 percent for
cipolletti weir. The influence of channel slope was shown from an adverse to a positive slope, i.e. (-
1.0 percent to 5.0 percent) at an interval of 0.5 percent of slope, and it has been shown that, as
channel slope decreases, the percentage reduction of discharge coefficients that vary for various
forms of sharp-crested weirs. Variation of suspended sediment content with discharge has been
shown.
