Knowledge, attitudes and practices towards COVID-19 among public of Odisha, India: An online questionnaire survey

Abstract

This survey aimed to access the prevalent levels of awareness towards COVID-19 among the public of
Odisha, India.A cross-sectional survey of 440 members enlisted from different origins or places in
Odisha was conducted in March-April 2020 through potent and reliable questions (i.e. in the Google
format) including sociodemographic and practices and preventive measures against COVID-19
knowledge data.Most of the participants submitted a very good information and knowledge about
COVID-19. Most of the participants (46.10%) belonged to 18-30 years and 36.80% of participants
were Post graduated followed by 30.20% were graduated, 23.06% were 12th pass and 5.09% were
competed 10th. Almost 98.40% were known about COVID-19 and 73.30% reported that COVID-19 is
pandemic now. The origin of corona virus is from China was said by 93.60% and 90.70% reported
that it is a contagious disease. Regarding sign and symptoms about 65.90% reported that the
incubation period is 2 weeks or 14 days. The common symptoms like dry cough (84.30%), fever
(85.20%), running nose (64.50%) and headache (59.80%) reported by participants. Approximately
90.70% reported it can spread through droplets of infected person and 78.40% said by coming
contact with infected objects also. 88% said they wash their hand frequently while 85.50% said social
distancing is the best protective measure. 79.80% reported to stay at home and call helpline as you
find symptoms of COVID-19.Healthcare and Government of India as well as Odisha take great effort
against COVID-19 and to educate the people & to raise the awareness about COVID-19.Successive
communication between doctors and public is help the Government to control the disease outbreak.
