Abstract

This paper presents an automated Hydroponic farming based on IoT sensors which are
integrated with plant health monitoring through image processing. Hydroponic farming is the
technique of plant cultivation without using the soil. This technique ensures that the plant
receives all nutrients from the water-soluble nutrient solution and doesn't need to grow extensive
root systems to obtain the nutrients they need. The water is an important determinative factor in
hydroponic whose temperature and availability can be measured by using a water temperature
sensors and moisture sensors respectively. The other sensors used in this project are light
sensors to measure and control the light intensity needed for plant growth and temperature and
humidity sensor to measure the room temperature and humidity respectively. These sensors are
connected to Raspberry pi, a low cost, credit-card sized computer that plugs into a computer
monitor to perform operations. In addition to that an image processing technique is further
applied to monitor the health of hydroponic plant leaf. The status of plant and environment are
intimated to farmers through a web interface like mobile phones or laptops. In the proposed
work the images of Potato plant leaves are considered for the purpose of experiments.
