Abstract

Today in any manufacturing process surface roughness variable plays significant role in deciding the quality and performance of machined parts, due to which special attention needs to be concentrated in the area of surface roughness (SR). With this intention the current research is focused on improvement in SR during Die sink Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) process of NiTi60alloy. Initially taguchi analysis is carried out to determine effect of machining parameters like current, voltage, pulse on and pulse off on SR by using L9 orthogonal array method. Later on empirical model was developed by using buckingham's pie theorem to estimate SR. The comparative investigation was carried out between experimental and empirical SR, which shows good agreement between them. From experimental and empirical model results it is observed that the SR seems to be increase with increase in current from 4 to 8A and voltage from 55 to 80 V. This shows that, current and voltage are only the dominating parameters for SR as compared to other machining parameters.
