Analysis of Social and Cultural Values in Ma'parapa (Silence) Text of Rampanan Kapa’ Prosession (Wedding Party) in Tana Toraja

Abstract

This study aims to describe the social and cultural values ​​contained in ma'parapa text of  rampanan kappa’ procession in Tana Toraja and describe its function of social and cultural values ​​in North Toraja. The type of research is qualitative research. The data of this study are in text excerpts that illustrate the social and cultural values ​​contained in ma'parapa text of rampanan kapa’ procession in Tana Toraja. Data collection techniques are documentation, literature, and interview. The data analysis technique is conducted by using an interactive model with the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and data conclusion or verification. The results of this study indicate that social values ​​, including caring and social solidarity shown by tominaa to the bride and groom, family, and all attendees, are found in ma'parapa text. The other values are praying for the posterity of the bride and groom, long life, nourishment, health, and always asking for God’s help. Caring for others contains in all families, friends, and other community members gathering at the location of the wedding in order to share happiness while praying for the bride and groom’s safeness and prosperity. The attitude of social solidarity shown by tominaa as one member of the same community class is sympathy, feelings, or expression in a group formed by common interests. The cultural values called fellow human esteem, as shown by using the tabe’ word for its manifestation, is one of the values exposed by Tana Toraja community in their daily activities. The function of social and cultural values ​​is to brace the relationships, help the others in need, mutual cooperation, solve the challenges together, solidify a full-support community, care for each other, and as cultural preservation efforts.
