Subalternity to Emancipation: A Tour de Force of Woman projected by Man in the Post Independence Indian English Fiction

Abstract

Literature of postcolonial and commonwealth countries is stuffed with diverse works depicting and discussing numerous concerns related to woman, her charisma,  culture and common sufferings. To represent the circumstances of females, numerous writers, logicians and researchers have endeavored and written endless books. From this plethora of literary works, this research paper is focused on the projection of female characters by noteworthy male Indian English fiction writers of the post independence era. The major authors under consideration are Bhabani Bhattacharya, Manohar Malgonkar, R.K. Narayan, Raja Rao, Khushwant Singh and Mulk Raj Anand. The paper mirrors the voyage of women in fictional depiction from subordinate to self stating autonomous creatures in Indian social setting. The papers centers on only the female characters of male Indian authors, i.e. the problems faced by them, the strife and revolt initiated by them and the self assertion achieved by them.
