Smart Phone, Internet and Social Media Usage of College Students: A Cyber Psychology Study

Abstract

This exploratory research was aimed to understand the cyber psychology behaviour of college students with respect to usage on smart phone, internet and social media in their daily life.  The researchers adopted exploratory research design, survey method and structure questionnaire to gather the perception of college students towards the usage of smart phone, internet and social media through the application of judgment sampling method.  The empirical evidences proves that Psychological Reliance Factor (PSRF) followed by Physiological Reliance Factor (PHRF), Societal Apathy Factor (SAF) Virtual Affinity Creation Factor (VACF) followed by, Emotional Expression Factor (EEF), Dedication Factor (DF) and Societal Information Factor (SIF) are the dominant dimensions of smart phone, internet and social media usage among college students.  Further, smart phone, internet and social media usage have higher positive relationship with each other.  The researchers suggested the college students to reduce the usage of internet social media and smart phone by giving focus to academic learning (e-learning) and other physical activities to enrich their knowledge and networking skills.
