Abstract

The importance of implementation of optimum level of preservation technology is highly essential to reduce the economic loss caused due to the deteriorating seasonal products. Mostly, industries producing seasonal products use preservatives, both in qualitative and quantitative sense, to enhance the lifespan of the products with a motive to have more profit.  However, the restrictions on the use of preservatives due to the adverse effect of it on the living organisms, is a major concern of the present research.  This article introduces a link between the extended life time of the product with its price under crisp and fuzzy environments. A disposal cost is also incorporated for the environmental sustainability purpose on those products which can no longer be preserved with any additional preservatives and are disposed with appropriate measures.  A suitable non-linear mathematical model is proposed to obtain the optimum total profit.  Sensitivity analysis is conducted for both crisp and fuzzy models to derive managerial insights for decision makers.
