Abstract

Power system networks are continuous monitoring and controlling to prevent voltage blackouts. Augment in FACTS controllers penetration in transmission network addresses to meet tremendous snowballing load demand without the installing new transmission lines.  Voltage Stability Index (VSI) as a gauge to spot out weak bus /lines which are nearest to its maximum allowable boundaries. In this comprehensive survey, VSI is contoured as the major tool to assess voltage stability of a given network. Numerous types of VSI have been proposed in different aspects with respect to basic perception and equations. To comprise a healthier perceptive, this article contributes a comprehensive roadmap to choose appropriate VSI for identifying weedy buses and transmission lines to place Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) controller to curtail the voltage block out scenarios.
