OPTIMAL LOCATION AND SIZING OF SHUNT FACTS DEVICE DURING VARIOUS LOAD CONDITIONS – GMCFPSO

Abstract

This article mainly concerned about the enhancement of the voltage stability against various load conditions via the optimal placement of STATCOM (STATic synchronous COMpensator). The article deals with the application of particle swarm optimization (PSO)  approaches namely, Constrained Factor PSO (CFPSO) and Gaussian Mutation inspired PSO (GM-CFPSO) for the optimal location and the optimal parameter setting of STATCOM under various load conditions(100%, 150%, 175% and 200% of base load). Most severe buses are indentified by using a novel index method called Unification Index (UI). To verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach, simulations studies are performed on a standard IEEE 30-bus power system. Encouraging results are obtained. Also the results indicate that GM-CFPOS is competent compared with others approaches.
