Smart Street Lighting System with Fault Detection using IoT

Abstract

In general, it is often seen that the lights are switched ON throughout the night time even when there are no vehicles movement in the road. This leads to a lots of energy loss to the government. To overcome this issue, a method is proposed where, the street lights are not switched ON or OFF fully. Instead, the street light should be in a dim position when there is no vehicle movement. If there is a vehicle movement, it is sensed and the street light will be turned ON with full brightness automatically. Infrared (IR) sensor is used to sense the vehicle movements. The control signal of sensor has been fed to the microcontroller.
