Stock Condition and Fishery Aspect of Red Snapper (Lutjanus gibbus, Forskal, 1775) in Alor Waters, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia
Abstract
The red snapper is a potential reef fish in Alor waters, exploited throughout the year so it needs management. The study aims to analyze fishery aspect of red snapper stock. The annual yields and efforts were collected at the Fishery Service and related agencies. The total length was measured for 4000 fish captured by hand line from March 2018 to March 2019. Stock condition analyzed by Mallawa method, Maximum sustainable yield and optimum effort calculated by Schaefer method, total allowable catch, capacity to harvest and percentage of eligible size to catch by Mallawa methods. The SPR value is 34.83%, percentage of eligible fish size in male, female and combined male-fenales are 56.76%, 4.51% and 23.34% respectively. MSY value of red snapper is 690.98 tons year-1 and fMSY is 103906 trip year-1, the TAC and the level of utilization are 554.03 tons year-1 and 87.75 % respectively. The yield and f are high than the MSY and fMSY in the last year. Biologically, the condition of red snapper stock in Alor East Nusa Tenggara waters is categorized quite good. The percentage of eligible fish to catch in catches of red snapper is high in males and low in females and level of utilization is high or fully exploited.
