The Insights and Balances of aFamily in the Select Novels of Rohinton Mistry
Abstract
Rohinton Mistry is a Diaspora writer who was born in Bombay and lives in Toronto, Canada from 1975 on. As with many other Indian English writers, Mistry like Rushdie is the expatriate who in the 1970s left India to live in Canada. Yet he didn't leave India. Although Mistry denies that the stories of his novels are not just nostalgic out pouring, yet once Mistry himself stated that he is more or less concerned with the representation of the place as a locale of the past as present. He is also engaged in the construction of families and the bonding between the family members. Through his novels and short stories, he wants to elevate the importance of Family.
