Mechanical properties of polymer matrix composites prepared through hand lay-up route

Abstract

Natural fibers have the more benefit that they are renewable resources and bio-degradable. In the recent decades, composite plays a dynamic role in the automotive, marine and electronics and so on. Composite are being used in the aircraft to obtain much efficiency. Instead of using highly weighted materials that are made by using casting and machining processes, since the fiber reinforced polymers, composite materials reveals simultaneously low elastic modules and high strength. Natural fiber incorporated polymer composites find major applications in recent years owing to its eco-friendly and low-cost nature. The objectives of this research is to improve the impact resistance and tensile strength-weight ratio of the material which is going to be made by the combination of sisal, jute, hemp and glass fibers using pairing method. This paper deals with fabrication and mechanical characterization of a hybrid composite. The composites of fiber reinforcement using epoxy resin were done by hand lay-up technique.
