Sweet Potato Biscuits Fish Catfish for Children Nutrition
The problem of malnutrition is due to the inadequacy of nutrient associated with low economic family circumstances and family nutrition knowledge. One of the models for improved nutritional status of children under five years old babies can be done through supplementary feeding and nutrition information on the family. This study aimed at analyzing the effect of "sweet potato catfish biscuits” and nutrition counselling for weight underweight children under five years old babies years. Method: This research includes quasi-experimental non-randomized design of pre-test-post-test control design. Providing additional food such as sweet potato catfish biscuits and nutrition counselling on 76 children under five years old babies years in three regions of health centers in Medan (Lalang, Sunggal, Tuntungan). Results: The results showed that supplementary feeding of sweet potato catfish biscuits and nutritional counselling to mothers / families for six weeks effectively raise the weight of child malnutrition. Giving biscuits to children under five years old babies and maternal nutrition counselling on family / significant gain in weight underweight children with an average increase of 730 ± 480 g. Whereas when given sweet potato catfish biscuits could increase weight of children under five years old babies by 390 ± 490 g. Conclusion: Based on the result of this study, the provision of catfish sweet potato biscuits and nutritional counselling can be an alternative model in an effort of children under five years old babies with under nutrition and severe under nutrition, especially in poor families.
