The Role of Vigilantee In Securing Security Atmosphere of Nigeria

Abstract

The security situation of Nigeria today has necessitated the federal government to recognize the vigilante groups as compliment to security personnel. The paper used secondary data and content analysis through the consultation of literatures on vigilante group to determine the nomenclature and the role of vigilante in Nigeria. The study found that democracy has affected security of the country; the formal securities were not capable to confront the activities of the criminals while the vigilante groups have been making commendable effort to curtail the menace. Finally the paper recommends good governance and equipping vigilante groups with working tools to strengthening the effort.
