PERCEPTION OF LOCAL AUTHORITIES TOWARDS E-GOVERNANCE PRACTICES IN COIMBATORE DISTRICT

Abstract

Government has been implementing various schemes from time to time for the welfare and
benefit of the public. These schemes are implemented at the level of local authorities. They have the
direct contact with the public and deliver the services to them. In the digital era, automation of
services has become inevitable. Almost all the services rendered by the Government have been
computerized. The service delivery through electronic devices is known as e-Governance.
Coimbatore District is one of the major industrial districts in the State of Tamil Nadu where eGovernance practices have been followed to a greater extent. The present study aims at
understanding the perception of local authorities towards e-Governance practices in this district. In
this regard, 250 sample respondents have been selected from the employees of local administration.
The data collected from them regarding awareness, effective services and perception have been
analyzed with appropriate statistical tools. It is found that young aged employees are more aware of
e-Governance practices. Service delivery related factors have been most effective services as
perceived by the employees
