Effectiveness of LMS: Moodle Perspective from South Eastern University of Sri Lanka

Abstract

The use of the internet has increased rapidly since the early 1990s, after which the internet posed a massive influence on the daily activities of individuals and organizations. John Chambers (in Rosenberg, 2001) indicated that the most significant growth on the Internet as well as the area that will be the most prominent agent of change is e-learning. Singh and Hardaker (2014) also mentioned that, there were antecedents that prompted and compelled the adoption of technology into educational system, so, as to enhance the opportunity and accessibility by every interested individuals and organization. The umbrella-term technology-based learning covers electronic-learning / e-learning that uses electronic technology such as Intranet, Internet, video conferencing (Chopra et al., 2019). Technology introduction to education has enhanced the development in every facet of academic pursuit, even economic and human development. Learning Management System (LMSs) are considered most reliable basically in blended learning environments, moreover LMSs are usually the foundation that, web-based learning program is built upon (Lwoga and Komba, 2015; Cheng, 2014). The usage of the LMSs has become a necessity at universities that most of them have developed a customized LMS portal for easy accessibility by their lecturers and students (Fullwood, Rowley & Delbridge, 2013). With the inbuilt of several significant functions like content management and learner administration, the LMSs offer education institutions effective resources for training and teaching relevant individuals as well as enabling those individuals to arrange and share their academic know-how in a proficient manner (Dogoriti, Pange & Anderson, 2014).
