PSOAHA: Particle Swarm Optimization and Ant Colony optimization based hybrid algorithm for large Wireless Sensor Network

Abstract

A hybrid Partcle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Ant colony Optimization(ACO) based algorithm for large wireless sensor network (WSN) has been proposed in this article. The main objective of this paper is to propose a routing algorithm to increase the stability period and to select the appropriate cluster heads(CHs) so that the overall network life span could be increased. The PSO approach has been applied for the selection of cluster heads and ACO approach is applied for the selection of the optimal route between the nodes and CHs. The proposed approach is compared with the LEACH protocol and it could be seen that the PSOAHA is more energy-efficient and perform better in the case of the size of the wireless sensor network has been increased. Thus the proposed algorithm is scalable and more enrgy-efficient as compared to the LEACH algorithm.
