Abstract

Wireless Sensor Networks are the networks which consist of various batteries operated wirelessly connected sensor nodes. These sensor nodes communicate with each other in order to send data to each other. The major challenge in wireless sensor networks is the battery depletion. The lifetime of wireless sensor nodes is too short which affects the performance of the wireless networks in many ways. Many scientists have suggested various methods to recharge these sensor nodes and re-energize them in order to increase the lifetime of the network. But still lot of improvement is needed in order to maximize the network life span. In this paper, a review is performed on various techniques and methods of recharging the sensor nodes and pitfalls are discussed. Moreover based on the review, several challenges are discussed.
