Voltage Profile Improvement In Distribution System With DG Using Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm

Abstract

This paper presents the traditional method in electric power distribution. When considering the small
generation cases, the locations and penetration level of DG is actually not known. Hence a new, fast,
particle swarm optimization (PSO) is used here for the purpose of solving the voltage stability problem
in normal operation by satisfying all objectives simultaneously with a relatively small number of
generations and relatively short computation time. The objectives of the problem are to minimize real
power losses and improve the voltage profile and load balancing index with minimum switching
operations. Also, a PSO operation is applied instead of a random one to speed up convergence. To test
the algorithm, it was compared with conventional method on IEEE 33 bus distribution feeder network.
