The objectives of this study are to design a device for wound depth measurement and to measure the wound depth more accurately as compared to other conventional methods. In this observational study, 5 patients were recruited from Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim in Kedah state, Malaysia using a purposive sampling method. Cooperative patients who are willing to participate, and those having wound(s) with indentation were included.  However, restless, critically-ill, psychologically unfit, as well as patients without wound base were excluded in the study. Wound depth measurements were done using the Time-of-Flight (ToF) laser device and cotton swab method for comparison.  The Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Minimal Detectable Change (MDC) were utilized for statistical analysis. The data analysis was done using SPSS version 22. The mean of wound depth measured by ToF is 23.4000 (standard deviation [SD]: 12.62141); whereas for cotton swab is 19.2000 (standard deviation [SD]: 12.33694). There was a significance similarity between 2 methods (ICC = 0.968, p <0.05). In conclusion, the ToF laser device has been proven to be effective in measuring the depth of wound in a painless, non-invasive, and sterile manner. Hence, it should be considered in wound rehabilitation to monitor the progress of a wound. ER -
