About 70% of these cancers are the result of HPV 18 infection. Though there are treatment measures for cervical cancer, it’s better to prevent it from occurring than to treat it afterwards. In India, Human Papilloma Virus infection prevention is not even at the starting stage, so focus is needed in this Immunization strategy. The study focus is testing the potential of a Vitamin A derivative namely all trans Retinoic Acid (ATRA) in combination with phytochemical extract from Thuja orientalis Linn leaves on reducing the HPV18 in HeLa cell lines. With the concentrations, 3.76 µg/mL ATRA + 596 µg/mL T. orientalis. L leaf extract, 24 hour post treatment of HeLa cell lines showed only 0.614% cell viability, while ATRA alone showed 3.19% viability and T. orientalis leaf extract alone showed 4.26% viability. Furthermore, the PCR results showed the absence of HPV18 DNA the combination treatment as well as the individual treatments, indicating that the treatments could act on HPV18 and downregulated the HPV infection in treated HeLa cells. These results suggests that, ATRA and the phytochemicals of Thuja orientalis Linn leaves can prevent the cervical cancer, as a chemo-preventive drug. ER -
