The assessment of erosion of AA5083 alloys modified with different content of Cerium (Ce) and Praseodymium (Pr) was performed by using a single spherical particle impingement technique at normal incidence to predict the influence of rare earth elements (REEs). The impingement craters were evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively. The quantitative assessment of the average diameter of impact craters that formed due to impingement was examined with aid of optical microscope combined with advanced software (the i-Solutions DT software package) while the crater depth and volume were estimated using the standard geometrical relations. The qualitative assessment was examined through the surface morphology of individual crater by utilizing optical microscope combined with advanced software (i-Solutions DT software package), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and image processing technique. The evaluation showed a variation of a diameter, depth and volume of the crater as a function of type and content of REES. It was also confirmed that the erosion resistance performance improved by adding rare earth elements (Ce & Pr) due to their ability to induce a refined microstructure and promote the equiaxed grain rate.</p>}, number={2}, journal={International Journal of Advanced Science and Technology}, author={et. al, Idris Jamaliah}, year={2020}, month={Jan.}, pages={1763 - 1772} }
