From watching our favorite films, net series or shows online within the comfort of our bedrooms to ordering delicious food, reserving cab, flight tickets, and buying garments and groceries anytime anywhere virtually by using a smartphone, our everyday chores have come to the conveniences of a few clicks. Mobile payment services also have tremendous potential in India with a smartphone penetration of nearly 300 million; however, consumer acceptance of mobile payment systems is comparatively poor. This is due to difference of preference in choosing online transactions across population of India. Market understanding of digital payment impacts strongly and positively on digital payment adoption. In order to obtain detailed insights into the understanding of consumers and the desire to use online payment systems, current research validates the usage of online transaction versus cash on delivery for online orders using a sample of tier – 1, tier – 2 and tier – 3 cities in India. A structured questionnaire was used to conduct the survey for apprehending the customer perception of online transactions. Primary data was accumulated from sample size of 101 people of different cities.
