Abstract

Handwritten recognition is an emerging technology in image processing. Character recognition is considered as an important area in the field of pattern recognition and artificial intelligence. Handwritten recognition is empowering a machine to automatically detect the characters written in a user handwriting. In the proposed technique, we have trained a Support Vector Machine with a dataset consisting of 50 instances of every character, and it is later used to identify the handwritten character scanned as input. The proposed system recognizes the characters or text by extracting contour based features. By using this proposed character recognition system, the complexity has been reduced hence making it easier to integrate into the existing applications.
