Abstract

A comparative study of biodiesel powered compression ignition engines performance and exhaust emission characteristics with the addition of Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles were conducted initially. The Argemone Mexicana fractions of 18% by volume are added in pure diesel. The blend of Argemone Mexicana biodiesel, 18% biodiesel added with 82% of diesel is denoted as B18. The addition of nanoparticle– TiO2 as additive of 0.05%, 0.07%, 0.09%, 0.11%, 0.13% and 0.15% by volume in the studied Mexicana biodiesel. It was found that the quality of the modified fuel with 0.13% TiO2 shows better performance and emission characteristics. With 0.13% TiO2 added in blends of biodiesel is denoted as B18T13. B18T13 shows the percentage increment in performance characteristics, BP, BMEP, BTHE was 5.99, 3.70 and 9.20 respectively. Percentage decrement in BSFC was 2.86. B18T13 shows the percentage increment in performance characteristics, CO, HC, CO2 and NOx was 2.36, 11.46, 5.28 and 1.28 respectively.
