Mukim’s Role in Managing Gampong’s Fund: A Case Study in East Aceh, Indonesia
Abstract
Mukim is one form of the uniqueness of Islamic Sharia and local wisdom in Aceh. It is the extension of the government’s role that is able to directly connect with the community. This study aims to explain the role of mukim in the management of gampong’s (village) fund in East Aceh, Indonesia. The method used is a qualitative research method. This research was conducted in Banda Alam sub-district, East Aceh regency, Aceh, Indonesia due to its strategic geographical location and has a high level of social complexity. The data were obtained through observations, interviews, and focus group discussion (FGD) involving relevant stakeholders. The results reveal that mukim’s role in managing gampong’s fund in Banda Alam sub-district is still not optimal and has not yet played a significant role due to limited authority. Furthermore, the policies related to mukim today cannot accommodate mukim’s role. Therefore, it is suggested to the Aceh government to create policies in order to accommodate mukim not only as individual, but also as an institution so that their functions can be maximum in the community.
