Abstract

To meet the maintenance high needs of aircraft components in PT Garuda Maintenance Facility Aero Asia (GMFAA) the required availability of sufficient facilities, one of them is Test Stand Integrated Drive Generator (IDG). The design of heat exchanger is needed to overcome the problem of water availability with temperature that suits the needs of the Test Stand. This design is a calculation of the dimensions of the shell and tube heat exchanger using an analytical calculation that will be compared with the simulation result using Heat Transfer Research Inc. (HTRI). The calculation of the Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger dimensions (STHE) aims to determine the quality of heat exchanger based on the overall heat transfer coefficient and the decrease in pressure that will occur. The designed heat exchanger is a shell and tube type heat exchanger 1 pass shell and 1 pass tube. The type of fluid flow is the contra flow to the hot fluid in the form of waste water and the variable are in cold fluid which is cold water and isopropanol with various flow rate.
