Physical Setting Significance in Sense of Place Creation in Tangerang Old Market

Abstract

The physical setting of a historic city area has a significance value that must be identified. In the context of Spirit of Place, physical settings have different criteria, because there are attributes of authenticity that must be maintained as urban cultural heritage. Subjective perceptions about places become one of the basic considerations in determining significance, so that the identification of physical settings that are specific to the historic city area will provide a basis for development in accordance with the social environment in the region. This study aims to identify the criteria needed in assessing the significance of specific physical settings having Spirit of Place. This Spirit of Place specification itself is referred to from the core dimension of Sense of Place which consists of 4 (four) categories. This study maps the physical settings of city elements which have four categories of core dimensions. So that in the context of developing the historic city area, the significance of the physical setting that has a Spirit of Place is used as a criterion in the assessment
