Abstract

According to the QS World Rankings by Faculty on 2012, the Philippines was not included in the list of top universities in the field of Life Sciences and Medicine as well as in the field of Arts and Humanities. However, in the 2015 QS World Rankings by Faculty, the Philippines was also not included in the list of top universities in the field of Life Sciences and Medicine but, fortunately, two universities from the Philippines were included in the list for the field of Arts and Humanities. This study intended to assess the research productivity of the Philippines in comparison with other Asian countries in the fields of Life sciences and Medicine and Arts and Humanities by using quantitative indicators as well as comparative analysis. Findings of the analysis revealed that the difference in ranking among Asian countries were due to their focus on their expertise of the respective faculty. Furthermore, it was also proven that language was not a limiting factor in the research field since countries such as China, Japan, Israel, Hong Kong and South Korea were able to produce high impact papers despite not having English as their first language.
