The Wisdom of Kidungan: A Sound Representation and a Social Value of Javanese Society

Abstract

This research attempted to find esthetic sound in ludruk’s kidungan and Javanese cultural wisdom in ludruk of East Java, particularly relevant to sound during ludruk staging. This research employed ethnopoetic approach focusing on stylistics, the sound of East Java’s ludruk’s kidungan and its representation as social value of community. The data of research was information on ludruk’s kidungan during staging and Javanese cultural wisdom value in East Java ludruk. Data collection was conducted by means of observing and listening to the object in the form of kidungan parikan video recording in East Java ludruk. In addition to the activity, data collection was conducted through interviewing the leaders of pengidung ludruk of East Java. Data validation was carried out using method, theory, and data source triangulations. The result of research showed that there were assonance, alliteration, and end rhythm sounds. In addition, there was also local wisdom value of East Java kidungan such as social (religious) value, social value of education, love affairs, and social political value. Through kidungan and social values of community, the religious, educational, love, and political values can be made an ethical education media to the community.
