Abstract

Speaking competence for dakwah (Islamic sermon) among higher education students is still limited. One of factors causing this phenomenon is limited use of learning media supporting this competence. Interactive audio visual learning media is considered to be able to improve speaking competence for dakwah. Therefore, this research aimed at: 1) explaining the differences between control and experimental classes in speaking activity, 2) describing the effectiveness of interactive audio visual learning media in speaking dakwah among higher education students. This research belongs to quasi experimental method consisting of independent and dependent variables. Experimental design was chosen for explaining the speaking competence for dakwah among the students of Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo by using learning media. To describe the findings, the researcher combined descriptive and evaluative methods. This research took samples amount to 50% of population using purposive sampling technique. Meanwhile, the research data were collected from speaking test for dakwah using interactive audio visual media. Experimental method using one way ANOVA (t-test) was carried out. As a result, it got: 1) pretest score 1.029 by the significance 0.315. Since the significance > 0.05, it could be concluded that pretest data between experimental and control groups has balance variation,  2)  t-test upon the posttest scores obtained tcalculation 3.876 within the the significance 0.000 or < 0.05. In conclusion, the posttest data betwexperimental and control groups were significantly different. It meant that theuse of interactive audio visual learning media were effective for teaching speaking skiils for dakwah.
