Design and Fabrication of Automated Inspection System for Bearing Cap

Abstract

The main aim of this paper is the to design and manufacture an automated hole inspection system for Bearing Cap. For this, an inspection system is proposed with the structure of the rotating circular table. The device is constructed by placing a motor below the rotating disc and photo transmitter and receiver is fixed at the column in such a way that the photo transmitter is facing the rotating plate and receiver is fixed below the rotating plate. The end effectors experience a single degree of motion due to this design. The requisite motion is only rotary. The work piece is placed on the rotating table. The holes are sensed using an electronic system with proper motion and delays. The work piece to be inspected is attached to the fixed vice of proper alignment. The proper alignment for the system is achieved by facing the hole in line with a ray of light. After fixing the piece properly, the automated system starts the inspection. After the inspection process, the system provides the inspection results to the operator. By implementing this system, the reliability, repeatability, accuracy is increased, thereby reducing the human error by a significant level.
