SMART PILL DETECTION AND ALERT SYSTEM USING AI AND IOT CLOUD
Abstract
Smart pills detection and alert system is developed to detect the level of pills in the bottle using image processing technique and alerting the caretaker on medicines level status using social media via IoT Cloud. The image or frame of pills bottle that is captured from a video streaming from a camera with high resolution. The captured image is processed and segmented to obtain the level of pill in the transparent bottle. The level of pills is sent to IoT Cloud and the system notify user or patients about their pills availability level. This work is implemented using a Raspberry Pi 2 which is a microcontroller with Raspberry Pi Camera Rev 1.3 that can be programmed using the Python language. The methods of image segmentation technique which have been utilize to identify and recognize the pills are Canny edge for edge detection and Hough Transform detection. A predetermine pill level is set within a frame and when the pills level reach certain predefined level, a notification is sent via IoT Cloud to caretaker. The alert is successfully implemented via Ubidots IoT Cloud using event notification.
