Abstract

This study seeks to understand an economic phenomenon by examining the role of digital e-commerce in optimizing economic equality in Indonesia. It recognizes that technological advances and globalization have transformed the Indonesian economic system from a conventional one to a digital one. Online businesses and business activities have drawn significant public interest, with numerous Indonesians establishing online shops and conducting online transactions. Online transactions, or e-commerce, refer to the buying and selling of goods and services using the internet; this has been accelerated by the rapid spread of smartphones. Using a statistical analysis approach, and collecting data on e-commerce, commercial content, and social media use, it provides a picture of Indonesia's economic condition. It shows that 64% of Indonesian internet users—approximately 85.2 million people—have shopped online. This shows that e-commerce does not only fulfill society's needs, but also improves their financial situation. This must be supported by further advances in information technology, which would provide small and medium enterprises with greater opportunities to competitively develop their businesses; only then could greater economic equality be created in Indonesia.
