Thermochemical Modeling of Chloride Binding in Portland Cement

  • Van Quan Tran

Abstract

This paper described a transport reactive model adapted to the necessary description of the conditions under which the passive layer could degrade. In particular, this investigation focused on calculating the concentration of OH− ions (or pH) as a function of the concentration of chloride ions for a NaCl solution in contact with the material. However, this calculation requires taking into account the dissolutions and precipitation of the mineral species present in the cementitious material. Numerical bound chloride is compared with the experimental results. The results show that it seems more relevant to take into account the precipitation of Kuzel’s salts than Friedel’s salt with regard to the chemical adsorption of chlorides with the cement matrix
