Effectiveness of Foot Reflexology on Nausea and Vomiting among patient undergoing chemotherapy
Abstract
Background: Nausea, vomiting are among the most dreaded side effect for patients setting out on malignancy chemotherapy. Aim: To determine the effectiveness of foot reflexology on Nausea and Vomiting of cancer patients. Foot reflexology is an ancient form of natural healing. Foot Reflexology has been shown to relieve Nausea, Vomiting among patients receiving chemotherapy. This will be helpful for reducing the level of Nausea, Vomiting & improve the quality of life. Material and Methods: The experimental study was conducted at in the Oncology unit tracery care hospital in western Maharashtra. Sample size should be chosen with help of SRS. The 50 cancer patients those are receiving chemotherapy assigned to 25 in the experimental group and 25 in the control group. . The experimental group received foot reflexology twice a day for three days and each session lasted for 20 minutes where a control group followed hospital routine management. The data were collected by structured questionnaire. The data were analysed using descriptive & inferential statistics. Results: The Nausea/Vomiting in control group post-test mean score was 12.08 where as in experimental group post-test means score was 5.48 and The values revealed that there was a statistically significant difference in level of Nausea, vomiting between experimental group in post-test with corresponding p value <0.0001.Conclusion: The foot reflexology was effective to reduce the level of Nausea, vomiting.
